Papa don’t preach

Posted by september29th on Sep 29 2006 | Life

I’ve been suspiciously away from my blog in recent weeks… Life decided to get unusually busy for me. The strangest thing to occur… my little puppy. Elliot… nearly sired a litter with my sister’s dog, Coco.

This was problematic on a number of fronts… the biggest worry came when we were informed that Coco could possibly die giving birth to a litter or possibly die because the litter could be too big for her to carry.

A mad scramble ensued and Coco had to have an emergency doggy-operation to ensure she would be safe. I went ahead and advanced Elliot’s neuter appointment and had him snipped this past Monday….

Currently both dogs are at my parents house so that they could be monitored 24-7.

Its unusually quiet here at the house but that should all change when they come back next Tuesday.

UGLY Betty

Posted by september29th on Sep 29 2006 | HDTV, Pop Culture

Ok… I don’t know how many people caught UGLY Betty this evening but I tuned in after reading a number of glowing reviews of it. The show wasn’t quite as funny as I hoped it would be… it is however very unlike anything on TV right now. Ted mentioned to me that the show is based on a hit TV show that aired in Spain (or some other spanish speaking country) called Ugly Lupe or somethin’.

The show debuted in HD glory. Prior to this evening I never paid much attention to actors looking bad in HD. Vanessa Williams quickly changed that when I saw her wrinkly rack on my 65″ TV. She however wasn’t the scariest actress on screen last night.. that nod goes to Extra’s – Ashley Jensen.

OMG did she look like shit in HD.

Anyhoo. Peep it next week.

Man Bites DOG

Posted by september29th on Sep 24 2006 | DVD, Film, Pop Culture

Is there anything better than sweet violence? Watched the black comedyMan Bites Dog this afternoon and have nothing but glowing praise for the movie.

I ran across a recommendation for the movie over at Alex’s blog a week or so ago and it finally landed in my mailbox.

If you have a very twisted sense of humor and want to watch beautiful movie about Media & Violence, drop everything you’re doing and watch this movie. You’ll thank me later.

Star Wars II – Legos

Posted by september29th on Sep 24 2006 | Video Games

If you’re sitting around until November 19th waiting for the Wii to drop, but still wish you had something worthwhile to play, look no further than Legos STAR WARS II.

I picked it up after hearing rave reviews from friends who picked up the first part. I’ve yet to rock that one out but I may check it out after I’m done rocking this one out.

The game explores the holy trilogy in a creative story play manner. There’s no voices or written dialogue in the game so its just you, your Star Wars memories and endless hours of trying to complete the game.

It’s two player and it allows you to play without every having to worry about dying.

Anyhoo… i lost a number of hours Friday and Saturday morning playing this game. Purchase this if you have 30 bucks burning a hole in your pocket.

Season 3, Project Runway

Posted by september29th on Sep 14 2006 | Pop Culture

With only a handful of weeks left in Season 3 of “Project Runway”… I find myself wondering why I tuned in for the duration of it this fall. They had a “Puck” situation at the start of the competition and they asked someone to leave… They eliminated one of the most promising designers when they asked her to make a garment out of trash. They managed to fly the participants to Paris for a challenge only to have them turn around immediately to go home. (despite them letting go of a character I didn’t care for… it was uncalled for and they had a week to play with this year seeing how someone got booted)

Anyhoo… I’m going to tune in tonight in hopes of finding someone to champion to the end. Knowing my luck this season, they’ll get the boot tonight.

Just when you thought they couldn’t sink lower… they jumped the hammerhead shark and brought back 2 contestants who were previously eliminated to make the last challenge more interesting.

.worst season ever.

Tuesdays : Offical Movie Nite for Alamo City Rollie

Posted by september29th on Sep 13 2006 | DVD

So… I found out this evening that my sister has a crazy hard-on for “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC. She took over the living room to watch the show in HD this evening. Having never seen an episode of “dancing with the stars” I entertained the idea of sitting in for a little bit when it started.

Someone informed me that Emmit Smith and Anderson Cooper were going to be dancing on the show… I later found out that it was Tucker Carlson, not Cooper who was selling out in hopes of being more human than partisan prick.

I only caught 2 performances… I didn’t really understand what the appeal was. The cover band was horrendus… and the broadcast wasn’t in true HD.

Oh SHIT. Before I forget… what happened to Joey “woah” Lawrence? He’s still physically fit… but he’s done away with his hair and is now sporting a freshly shaved Melon.

I wonder what his dimensions are? He seemed a lot smaller than his female dancing parter…

Anyhoo. The show sucks and its only further proof that Rome is burning.

Whit Stillman’s BARCELONA

Posted by september29th on Sep 13 2006 | DVD

I’m about 3/4 thru Whit Stillman’s: Barcelona. A few months ago I rented another movie he did (Metropolitan and I couldn’t stop myself from recommending it to anyone willing to stop and lend me their ear.

I hoped his second film (Barcelona) would be equally as good… but it’s not doing it for me for some reason. The dialogue is incredible but the film is not anywhere in league with Metropolitan.

If you run across this… no need to stop.

Sucks wang.
