Carls Jr.

Posted by september29th on Aug 31 2008 | Life, San Antonio

Labor Day weekend is shaping up to be a bit of a *bust*…  we did however just get a new fast-food restaurant at the corner of Rittman & 78 called Carls Jr.

I’m pretty sure that this is a Hardey’s (sp?) under a different name.

Anyhoo…  my sister scored me a free hamburger coupon so I swung by at lunch time to see what the food was like.   All in all, its good to have another option on the block, but the “western cheese burger” I got didn’t exactly blow a new part in my hair.

The drive thru was also sorta ass backwards.  It has very tight corners and they placed the preview menu before you queue your car. Their menu was also a little repetitive and overwhelming.  I think they had upwards of 16 combo numbers.

I’ll try out one more of their burger offerings before I write em off completely.  They’re officially just one notch above A&W’s, which isn’t saying much.

… back to TimeWarner?

Posted by september29th on Aug 31 2008 | HDTV, Life

Had to make a tough decision over the weekend…   my DISH Network contract expired at the beginning of August and we recently received a tasty offer from Time Warner Cable for TV and (fasteR) high-speed internet.

I can honestly say that the two 18 or so months I had Dish Network was great.  There’s a couple of things that I disliked tho’…   1.) you needed to have a Telephone line or a Ethernet device to download programing updates to your box.  If you don’t have either of those you have to pony up 6 dollars a month as a penalty.  2.) I can honestly say that DISH worked through the fiercest of thunder/rain storms…   the dish however would occasionally blank out on the clearest of days.  This can happen with Cable TV also tho’.   3.) A great deal of our $avings were tied into the first 12 months of having the dish…  the last 6 months got a little pricey and that’s what instigated the wandering eye for cable needs.

Instillation is set for Thursday afternoon/evening.  I’m really not looking forward to returning to Time Warners terrible DVR.  blegh

September29th (video) Podcast

Posted by september29th on Aug 30 2008 | Pop Culture, Scattershot

Just finished previewing the a video podcast that Jaime and I threw together the other day… I don’t know when it’s going to drop on the website but it should be dropping pretty soon. As in this weekend.

We haven’t done a “pop culture” podcast in well over a year… we’ve been wanting to put one together for a while but time hasn’t really permitted. If all goes well – we’ll get this shit all squared away and include the Terrible Ted for the next one.

More to come.

the day after

Posted by september29th on Aug 29 2008 | Life

Today has been a bit of a blur.  After taking my morning shower I drove down to South East police station off of Commerce and Houston St. to turn in my police report….    it was kiddy corner to the office so I went in for a half day.

I have a rather large project on my hands right now…  this robbery could not have come at a worse time.  I’ve brought home a stack of Test Cases to plowthrough over the extended weekend.

When I’m not doing work… I’m doing my best to not be distracted by stuff going on arund the house.  The dogs occasionally come up and want some attention…  they also have a nack of upsetting me when they sleep the afternoon away without a worry in the world.

blegh.  back to work.

Obama does Denver

Posted by september29th on Aug 29 2008 | Pop Culture, Scattershot

Tuned in like many other Americans last night to see the Obama speech.   I’m pretty sure that I would have tuned in to see whom ever the Democratic Nominee would have been…  but I’d be kidding myself if I didn’t say that Obama made it all the more special.

I don’t know about you… but I think a lot needs to be said about Obama and the DNC throwing down in front of 86K+ @ a stadium that would typically sell out for a Denver Bronco football game or a band the likes of the Rolling Stones.

The production of last nights acceptance speech was amazing.  It was heart warming to see that many people in on the convention floor – giving a shit about politics.

the Break In

Posted by september29th on Aug 28 2008 | Life

Today was supposed to be like any other Thursday before a 3 day weekend…  with the exception that I would get to come home after work and knock out a podcast with Jaime and I’d get to watch Obama on the Television.

All that went out the window when I found out my house got broken into between the hours of 7:20am and 12:30pm.

I come home every day for lunch to let the dogs out… my heart nearly leapt out of my throat when I saw that the door was slightly ajar.

My dogs stood pretty far away from the entrance and approached me very slowly and low to the ground as if they had done something wrong.

I glanced up and saw that a number of my game systems in my living room had been taken.  I walked over to my room and saw that my flatscreen TV was also swiped.

12:30pm : call 911 and then call my sister.   I placed a flurry of calls after that to my landlord so that we could have the door addressed and then called into the office to explain what happened.

My sister rolled up to the house – hotter than hell.  She apparently had a screaming match with someone at the leasing office.  She nearly turned purple when she found out that the Cops hadn’t shown up yet – so she called 911 and stormed off telling someone over the phone that she “pays taxes….”

1:30PM - no sign of the police.  Had a co-worker pick up a co-worker who happened to tag along with me.  I just got off the phone with him actually…  he felt incredibly sorry about what happened and he also got pretty worked up about how anyone could have simply kicked in a door at his house.  It wasn’t negligence on my part… it was purely a case of random crime.

2:00ish - the cops finally show up.  We also had a guy come in to help secure the door…  I have a terrible band-aid situation with my front door until we have a guy come out to properly fix it.  That won’t occur until next week.   No joke…  the day is pretty shitty.

The officer then informed me that the detectives won’t be out to print the crime scene until later in the day… so I have to sit put and not touch a thing until they dust the place.

My sister split for work and I began to work in the office.  I spent a good amount of time catching up with things I needed to knock out.

3:00ish - I look out the window and saw that the Crime Investigations Until rolled in.  I had to explain to the officer that the door was boarded up so I had the cops come in through the garage.   They showed me a photo of a suspect who has been doing burglaries in the area.  We had a weird thing occur a month ago where someone attempted something on the house while my sister was here.

Its now a little after 4… and i’m sorta drained from all the bullshit.  More on this later.

Obama Nite

Posted by september29th on Aug 28 2008 | Pop Culture

Whose kiddin’ who… if you’re not going to tune into Obama tonight then there has to be something seriously wrong with you.

Tonight’s acceptance speech has all the makings of a “where were you when…..” moment that comes along very rarely these days.

Ikea spawned a monster (or 3)

Posted by september29th on Aug 27 2008 | Life

While over at IKEA this weekend… my friend Henry took this photo.  I have no idea how I got so dark over the summer.   Also, my mustache for whatever reason looks really pronounced in this photo.  I’ve never been able to grow a serious mustache so I have no idea why it looks the way it does in this photo.

Fantasy Football time again…

Posted by september29th on Aug 27 2008 | Sports

Just wrapped up my participation in this years online draft for Fantasy Football…   I turned in a rather disapointing season last year but I credit that to being unprepared and having a number of “sleeper” risks not paying off in the long run.

Me thinks however that his year will be Different for the Paris Texans.  My goal as always is to win the silly thing… but regaining the Pistol Cup from Nano will make this year a lot sweeter!
