September 29th

Posted by september29th on Sep 28 2008 | Life

Well… its that time of year again… My sister is turning a tender 27 years of age today.

Her dog Coco turned 4 (i think) on the 28th… so a party was thrown for her over the weekend. It was pretty hard to picture what a Dog-Party at a dog park would be like… but it turned out to be a lot better than anyone had expected.

Photos of the event and the B.Day Girls can be seen on my flickr account.

Boys Will Be Boys

Posted by september29th on Sep 28 2008 | Lit, Sports

Finished reading a book the other day called Boys Will Be Boys: the Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty.

A book that wouldn’t be of much interest to anyone who isn’t interested in Sports… but its a must read for anyone who Loves/Hates the Dallas Cowboys.

A number of excerpts appeared on some sport blogs a few months ago and that peaked my interest enough to go out and pick up the book for myself.

For Cowboy fans out there… this book will give you a good look at what transpired between Jerry and Jimmy and their building of a dynasty.

You’ll learn a lot about players and people whom were instrumental in making that team in the Mid 90′s into the greatest football team of the modern era. Its scary to think what could have happened had Jimmy stayed one more year… or if his replacement was a competent person and more importantly if Jerry Jones would have drafted better after the team was picked apart by free-agency.

The team easily left 2 Super Bowl titles on the table in the 1990′s.

The book also has a number of saucy stories regarding the off field antics. It doesn’t read like a Penthouse forum tho’. Its scant on a lot of details.. you do however have a lot of people on the record saying that it “was crazy”.

Third Coast Rally (4)

Posted by september29th on Sep 27 2008 | San Antonio, Scooting

Just got an email from Chivo confirming that he’s signed up for Third Coast Rally here in San Antonio next weekend.

If you live in the State of Texas and your ride a scooter : sign up for arguably the best scooter rally in the state of Texas.

www.thirdcoastrally.com

I’m burstin’ with excitement for this rally.  Not only because is in my backyard… but because its shaping up to possibly be one of the best ones ever put on by the local scooter community.

Class Reunion (the movie)

Posted by september29th on Sep 27 2008 | DVD

Rented an oldie but goodie this week – National Lampoons Class Reunion.  A horror-comedy from the early 80′s I used to watch on HBO when I was a kid….

I forget how the movie ended up in my Netflix queue but I’m glad it finally came in.

Its a trainwreck of a flick… but its nostalgic as all get out.

Debate Nite

Posted by september29th on Sep 26 2008 | HDTV, Pop Culture

Readers of this blog won’t be surprised to hear that I tuned into the debate tonight and thought Obama did incredibly well…

Watched a good bit of the debate on our local PBS HD feed but got word that CNN HD had charting tools that gauged viewers reactions to the debate.

I’m a little unsure how this tool is beneficial for viewers….   I occasionally looked down to see the needle move when a canidate spoke…   but found myself focusing on McCain and Obama and forgot all about the pie-charts and seismographs on the screen.

high encourage viewrs to stay away from this…  its far more rewarding to watch the debate without the clutter.

Red Belt

Posted by september29th on Sep 22 2008 | DVD

Got around to watching Dave Mamet’s most recent film RED BELT and liked it so much that I began texting friends who I thought would enjoy it equally in the middle of the movie.

The movie is enjoyable on a number of levels…  but its a throwback in that the film is a type of movie that is no longer being made these days.

While I didn’t like it as much as the Spanish Prisoner…  it’s close to being my 2nd favorite film by Mamet.  State & Main edges it out by a smidge.

Coco Chocolate Lounge and Bistro

Posted by september29th on Sep 18 2008 | San Antonio

Made it over to Coco Chocolate lounge and Bistro the other nite to have din-din with some friends… I’ve been meaning to visit this place for a few months now but haven’t had an itch strong enough to get me over to 281/1604.

All in all the place is pretty swank. My expectations came down when I saw that the bar was located in one of those new/retro looking : brick strip malls.

The food/wait staff & and good dinner company made the place an incredible place for a mid week meetup.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit – be sure to do so. If you’re fan of chocolate be sure to get their signature desert – the KISS.

new Tecate Light commercial

Posted by september29th on Sep 15 2008 | Pop Culture

I’m thinking about seriously spending some quality *thought time* into getting “you better get to steppin’!” into the Pop-Culture lexicon.

The new Tecate Commercial not only features a poor man’s Mexican Dan Akroyd, it also pimps the Mexican equivalent of Pabst Blue Ribbon Light.

I don’t know if this commercial is only getting played locally or not. Enjoy.

Tru Blood

Posted by september29th on Sep 14 2008 | HDTV, Pop Culture

Can’t believe that I’m fallin’ for the new HBO show True Blood…   well, thats not completely true.  It was created by the guy who did Six Feet Under (which I loved) and its about vampires so I sorta wanted to watch it and hate it completely.

The show is surprisingly sexual…  which also should be all that surprising seeing how I can’t think of a HBO Sunday show that didn’t border on soft pr0n.

I just figured it would be a little more horror focused.

Anyhoo, the show is pretty awesome so far.  I’m only 2 episodes in so the series could totally jump the shark in the coming weeks.

better album art

Posted by september29th on Sep 14 2008 | iPod

I need to start a flicker pool where people can photoshop albums they think would have been better in the recent apple advertisements…
