The Eclair Collection

Posted by september29th on Dec 31 2008 | Life

Got word from Jaime that he cut up some footage from his trip to Tejas. I just finished watching it and I enjoyed the hell out of it. It’s a little “inside” in that this will really only be enjoyable for the people in it or friends of mine who know Chivo & Jaime.

* edit : there was a correction made to the audio on the film. If you checked it out earlier you may have noticed that the dubbin’ was bad.

Valkyrie

Posted by september29th on Dec 30 2008 | Film, Life

Caught a screening of Valkryie the other night with Fin. We had planned to catch up with some friends for a late night showing of Big Lebowski, but I neglected to get advance tickets…. so, we sorta ended up outside of the theater with a handful of terrible movie options. We’re both history buffs, so the decision was pretty easy to make. In retrospect I think it was good for us to just have an impromptu night to ourselves tho’. There’s something sweet about seeing a movie like that with someone and having a rewarding conversation about it afterwards.

The movie was surprisingly good. There’s a number of great actors in it… Tom Cruise’s performance was “ok”, I walked away feeling that the movie felt “hollywood”. By that I mean, the production value of it was insanely high. There’s no shortage of movies touching on this subject… for whatever reason this one sorta stood apart because the look and feel of it was a little different. Perhaps a little more polished?

Anyhoo… the story is quite gripping. Despite knowing what the outcome would be – there were a number of moments in the movie where you sorta sat back and wondered what would happen next. It was quite interesting to see the internal squabbles to over throw Hitler to redirect the war.

Highly recommended it if your find yourself at a Theater that isn’t showing any art house pictures.

San Antonio Sunset

Posted by september29th on Dec 29 2008 | Life

Stopped by the North Star Mall with Chivo last night…  prior to going out with Fin.    This city has a number of photo friendly places…  I’m freakishly drawn to these boots for some reason.   If you’ve been to this city and you’ve been on 410 – then these will look incredibly familiar.

streetwalkin’ pinkerton

Posted by september29th on Dec 29 2008 | Life

Had an opportunity to visit Austin over the weekend… the trip was pretty spontaneous, Chivo and Jaime were in town so it seemed like a good idea to hop in the car and pick on each other in a confined area.

We took Joker’s car because the idea was a.) hers and b.) the Murano (sp?) comes equipped with a DVD player in the back seat.

Unhappy with the options on the shelf, we opted to rent the Dark Knight from a random Red Box on the way to the Capital.

Watching the Dark Knight on a 7″ screen isn’t ideal. Sharing the back seat with two big hungries isn’t any better, but we went ahead and did just that.

Austin : for the most part was pretty cool. Picked up a couple of CD’s at Waterloo and we made it over to a great Italian place on the corner of 47th and Lamar called Mandola’s Italian Market. The place is inside a thing called “the Triangle”. A strip of condo’s and yuppy store fronts… the place however was still ACE.

Below are some pictures of the good times had by all.

head cold & the full effect

Posted by september29th on Dec 26 2008 | Life

Its day’s like today that make me wonder why I’ve never bothered going to the doctor to figure out exactly what I’m allergic to.

Around lunch time yesterday, my throat began to feel a little strange. At first I thought the discomfort was caused by some very hot green-salsa my mom whipped up… but as the day progressed I had a sneaky suspicion that it was the beginning stages of a head cold.

I found some thera-flu packets and called it an early night yesterday. I had a number of co-workers walking around with flu like symptoms last week so i shouldn’t be all that surprised that I’ve come down with a touch of something.

It’s looking rather gloomy out. I’m thinkin’ that I’ll be staying in today and watching a lot of bad movies on DVD.

Christmas Morning

Posted by september29th on Dec 25 2008 | Life

Well… Christmas has come and gone for the most part. My family tore into a stockpile of goodies around Midnight and we all stumbled off to bed around 2:00AM.

The afternoon has been filled with cat naps and bowls of pozole. There’s talk of going to catch a view of the Spirit this afternoon…

I may have to skip out on it… my dad mentioned wanting to see the Celtics/Lakers game with me on TV.

Anyhoo, I made out like a mofo this holiday. I got some killer gifts, I’m sorta torn on what my favorite gift is. It’s a toss up between a PS3 and a limited edition Storm Trooper hoodie that zipps up from the front.

Whose kidding who… the hoodie totally trumps the PS3. I just don’t know how often I’ll wear it out. I think I’ll use it when I go out and see Fanboys in February.

In Apprecation of : Venture Bros.

Posted by september29th on Dec 24 2008 | DVD, Pop Culture

Ok… so I’m arriving very late to the party all you hipsters call “the Venture Bros.”

I was aware of the show from its inception thanks to Terrible Ted’s occasional request for me to check it out… but I stopped watching [Adult Swim.] shows around the time it wasn’t only on Sunday Nights.

But I digress… Prior to thowing in Disc 1, of Season 1 tonight : I think I’ve seen 5 or so Venture Bros. episodes.   The most memorable one featured Klaus Nomi, David Bowie and Iggy Pop.

For whatever reason…  I didn’t pay close enough attention to Brock Samson’s voice actor.  Had Ted told me that Patrick Warburton (Putty, the Tick) did his voice I would have hopped onboard a long time ago.

I’m about 5 episodes in and I’m digging it verrily.  Had the DVD’s lent to me on the promise that I would watch them over the holiday break.  Look incredibly forward to telling Fin how much I enoyed it.

Baby Dayliner

Posted by september29th on Dec 24 2008 | Music

If 2008 had any musical surprises it came in the form of Baby Dayliner.  A one man wrecking crew & performing artist from nYc.

I ran across him by accident while surfing the net one night.  I ran across a track titled “Snort Your Drugs” and sampled it on a video podcast a few months ago.

I discovered that he had a few albums out on Brassland Records and picked up his debut album on the strength of hearing the lead track Raid!.

His sound reminded me of a few artists.  Jens Lenkman mostly…  but you couldn’t help but acknowledge his musical influences.   On his debut record you hear Depeche Mode, the Smiths, New Order, Nick Cave and Joy Division…  all the while feeling fresh.

Hit up the links and get obsessed.
