day 8

Posted by september29th on Feb 26 2009 | Life, Podcasts

I can’t remember the last time I sat down to pen a proper entry for the website… there have been a number of ups and downs in recent days.

More ups than downs.
The computer, I find, can be the last place I want to be in front of sometimes.

There have been a number of things I’ve been wanting to blog about tho’.  I’ll sum all these things up in a quick burst.

Ekobase
I may have forgot to post a thing last week that the latest episode is up. I recorded the latest episode tonight.  we’ve done 49 of these in relation to the show LOST. sick i know.

Friends
In short, I have some amazing friends.  Especially the ones that live the furthest away.  Thank you very much for helping me my little hurdle of doubt.  Your advice was spot on (as always) and your undying patience with me, means the world to me.

Birthdays
Got to celebrate Lilly’s first birthday over the weekend.  Zissou was not only kind enough to accompany me to the festivities, she helped out with picking the perfect gift and the perfect card.   We make an incredible tandem.

Roadtrips & Record Stores
This past weekend was an incredible one.  One of the highlights was going to Austin with Zissou, to check out some record stores I love.   Not only did we pick up some killer tunage… we also go to visit one of Sarah’s favorite haunts “the Magnolia Cafe“.  While there I got to see her school an omelette and a fierce side stack of pancakes.  It was part scary/part sexy – seeing her go at it with such tenacity.

The Oscars
I didn’t get to see them LIVE this year, but thats OK because I was etching some incredible memories with Zissou last Sunday.  Picked 19 of the 24 winners tho’.  In your face!

Drinkin’
So I sorta got a little drunk last Friday night…  it was not only fun, but well documented.  I can’t thank Zissou enough for being such a gracious host… especially after I got sick in her bathroom.  Some people will kick you out of their place if you can’t hold your liquor.   My lady on the other hand lent a helping hand and cracked a few luvin’ jokes at my expense.  She even managed to slip me a purple pill that made me pee blue the next day.   I’m going to totally get her back for that….

New things and first time evers
So the list of ‘new things’ and ‘first time evers’ continue to grow for both Sarah and I.  I’d share more of these things but I’m happy to have things that only her and I know about.  I just rattled off a number of gems above.  She’s insanely good to me.   Next week, I do something with her that I’ve never done with any girl I’ve ever been in a relationship with.

stay tuned….

Touch and Go Records

Posted by september29th on Feb 18 2009 | Life, Music, Pop Culture

don’t have time right now to reflect on the sad news…  but Touch and Go Records is no more….

Just got word that only the distribution arm will go down… new music will come from the label down the road but they must restructure first.

A huge relief.   My thoughts on this, still to come.

A Cautionary Tale

Posted by september29th on Feb 16 2009 | Life

I’m spent.
Mentally and emotionally spent.

I’m possibly one of the luckiest guys I know.  I’m starring at a 120+ hand crafted valentine hearts that have been adorned with little factoids about Fin.
The gesture speaks volumes about where I stand in her heart.

corazones

I’ll be the first to say that I genuinely fucked it up.
By that I mean, I over-thought and under appreciated the person I care about & love most.

Things were possibly their worst on our late night ride through Contour Rd.  Over the car speaker, Elliot Smith piped through loudly. Baby Britain began to make a great deal of sense again.  Song selections on mix cd’s can reveal a lot about a person.  The coward in me wouldn’t be ‘happy until the bottle was broken’.

After filling the car with gas and snagging a few bottles of “purple drink” from a local Valero – I walked back to a car that was charted for a regrettable drive home.

Fin spoke up for the first time in nearly half an hour.
“we could always go to the Candlelight”

I immediately spun the car around and sat back in my seat quietly.  This was not the first time I had been in a car with Fin, listening to a new mix CD, en-route to the Candlelight to salvage an evening.   I managed to put my foot into my mouth on our first date and I lucked out when she agreed to drive around downtown San Antonio on a drizzly December night.  It was there where I possibly owe my relationship to a late night cup of hot-coco.

While the drink order was different… we sat across from each other at the same table we sat at in December. Things began to feel normal again.

Sunday morning couldn’t come quick enough for me.  Sarah had hinted at having an afternoon in the hill country for sometime.  On a small post it note, she jotted down a hand full of breweries and wineries we could visit.  We packed the car and our things and we let the open road repair what we needed most.  The conversation was of substance.  The experiences were new for both her and I and we now have memories of several “1st ever” moments.

I’m feeling like we may be all the better for it right now.   I know that the experience made me appreciate her more than ever.   I can’t ever recall aching to see her as much I do right now.   The building blocks for something very special is there.  I’m ready to not hold back for possibly the first time ever in my life.

One of the perks of living in the Alamo City is having incredible weather year round… every now and again however I wish that it would get wicked cold.

Cold enough for me to justify the purchase of this :

Friday the 13th

Posted by september29th on Feb 13 2009 | Pop Culture

bereft of anything new to report…  wanted to weigh in really quickly on Friday the 13th.

Not so much the day… or the number, I was thinking about the Jason Voorhees.   I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen at least 8 of the 11 Friday 13th movies.  I’ve seen 1-Manhattan and I think I saw the one where he goes to Hell.

I didn’t see them in order…  I think I saw Manhattan first, then Part II and the others sorta fell into an order I don’t remember.

Anyhoo  want to openly say that the 2nd installment was my favorite of the bunch.  With Part IV coming in as a close 2nd.

I urge you to avoid seeing the latest installment and see this one instead.

Don Deluxx, the Quiz Master and I

Posted by september29th on Feb 10 2009 | Life

Made it out to Geeks Who Drink Night – tonight, after missing 4 or so weeks in a row.   The Lion & Rose was a staple of mine for several months but we stopped attending after having a few sour experiences and some internal squabbling amongst the regulars.

When I found out my friend Donald was in town, I jumped at the opportunity to recommend that we try it out.   He’s a pop-culture/history buff like myself so I figured he would dig the hell out of it.   He’s pretty much up for doing anything if we can open a tab – so it wasn’t going to be to hard to please him.

All in all the evening was pretty dope.  Our team name was “Jews in Space” (History of the World Part. 1 reference) and we managed to come in 7th place despite only having two people on the team.  We didn’t do all that bad seeing how we were only 12 or so points behind 3rd place.

Below are some of the photos.

Weekend Update

Posted by september29th on Feb 09 2009 | Life

Ever have one of those rewarding weekends that may require having to call in on Monday so that you can fully recover?  I was very fortunate to some downtime today to reflect on an incredible weekend.

I had the privilege of celebrating both Fin’s birthday on Friday and our 1-month anniversary on Saturday.

Friday night was unscripted for the most part and it exceeded all of my expectations.  Dinner was great and we got to visit Bubbleheads who was celebrating their 1 year anniversary.  We also made it a point to take the camera out to document an evening together.  We capped the night at her grandmothers house who had cake for us to partake in.

The cake was amazing.  I’m hoping to possible get one more slice before its all gone.

Saturday was a real treat also.  Fin surprised me with a surprise visit to a local Wild Life Ranch.  I’m terrified of wild life so I spent a good part of the afternoon keeping a close eye on how close the animals got to the car.  All in all, the visit was an eye opening experience.  I never would have suggested we go to a place like that.  Especially if I knew that the wild life would get as close to  us as it did.   She was fully aware and respectful of my comfort zone tho’.  I found comfort in her comfort and I got totally behind it.

This can be seen in some of the petting zoo photos below.

Bellacino’s

Posted by september29th on Feb 08 2009 | Life

OK.  So there’s lot’s of stuff to report on…  one thing I that really took me by surprise is running into a Bellacino’s in Shertz, Texas.

Bellacino’s is a Pizza/Hot Sub restaurant chain that I used to work at in Detroit.  Seeing one in Texas completely took me by surprise.  Stopped in last night and got Steak Grinder.

Eat your heart out Motown!  Another killer thing from the Motor City that I can get in Texas.
