Tower Heist
Funny thing happened when I got around to watching 43 movies in 43 days… I found myself not wanting to watch a movie of any kind for an undetermined amount of time.
I caught little bits and pieces of movies in the past couple of days… but I didn’t really sit from beginning to end for a while until last night.
Got around to watching the Tower Heist, because of the following reasons :
1.) It has Eddie Murphy
2.) It’s a heist movie
3.) It was panned by everyone I know and nothing delights me more than seeing movies that are regarded as ”bad”.
After watching it… I can pretty much confirm that its pretty bad. Terrible actually. The film is about a Bernie Madoff (sp?) kinda guy that loses everyone’s money and he’s about to walk on his charges because he knows a bunch of Judges. This however placates the life savings of everyone he managed in the building he lives in - so the characters in the movie decide to break into his apartment to find a hidden safe.
The film takes a little turn in the middle of the movie… and it sorta comes off as a very simple Oceans Eleven. Except terrible…

The Notebook
Over the weekend, ABC Family broadcasted a movie I’ve heard a lot about but never got around to seeing, The Notebook.
What I didn’t know about the movie was that Ryan Gosling was in it.
Aside the guff I’ll get for admitting I watched this movie, it was actually worth the viewing.
Movie 43 / 365

Four Lions
Got around to finally watching Four Lions last night… a movie (comedy) about 4 Muslim men who have decided to become suicide bombers.
The film is a little slow at parts and I found myself not really relating to the subject matter in any way and found few laughs all the way through.
My guess is that if someone made a satirical movie about the Mexican drug war - I would find it funny and Brits would be left scratching their head.
Courageous movie nonetheless tho’

The Way of the Gun
If you’re a guy and it’s been years since you’ve seen a great “guy movie” - do yourself a favor and watch “The Way of the Gun”.
The movie is a “kidnap” or “heist” film of sorts… Benicio del Toro and Ryan Phillippe kidnap Juliette Lewis who is the surrogate mother of a rich married couple.
The film turns into a 2 hour long stand off of sorts… and it kinda plays out like a modern western. Dialogue is kinda sparse but not in a bad way.

The Grifters
Of all the John Cusack films out there… the Grifters is one of the hardest ones for me to get through for some reason…
I’m not exactly sure why that is… some of my favorite movies revolve around con artists. It also features an amazing nude scene with Annette Bening.
I think it has a lot to do with Anjelica Houston contribution to the movie. This is my 2nd viewing of it in my lifetime and likely my last.
Movie 39/365

Grease 2
I’m going to say something right now that is going to be pretty unpopular with anyone who is a fan of both film or musicals…
I not only like Grease 2 but I kinda prefer it over the original.
I’m not exactly sure what spurred my interest in watching this again, other than It showed up in my Netflix queue as a movie I may enjoy watching again.
Netflix queue was correct.
Well… sorta correct. There were a few parts of the movie that I really wished didn’t happen. Especially the bowling number “we’re gonna score tonight”.
A few of the numbers till bring back some found memories tho’. The bomb shelter scene and song made me chuckle pretty hard. My favorite part of the movie was the school production # at the end of the movie where the “girl of all seasons” gets belted out.
Movie 37 / 365
Moog
I got to play with a Moog in person (once) about 6 years ago when my roommate Jaime had his cousin Will come up to Detroit for a music festival (NxNW) in Toronto.
I’ve never had so much fun emitting noise outward and thought to myself - I could get one of these and never want to put it down.
I picked up a Moog app for my iPad a few months ago and while I don’t play with it very often, I will drop the occasional hour or two if I launch the application.
Netflix recently showcased a documentary, titled : MOOG - and I picked it as the thing to watch before the Superbowl this afternoon.
The film isn’t so much a documentary about the Moog… it doesn’t really touch on people (artists/bands) who have utilized it either. It’s a tribute of sorts to Dr. Robert Moog and his contribution to music.
All in all, it’s a pretty forgettable flick…

Revenge of the Nerds
One of the nice things about getting up early on Saturday is catching a movie on Comedy Central… the programing gods were on my side this morning and I got to re-watch a favorite of mine - Revenge of the Nerds.
Movie 35/365
Harold and Maude
Fell asleep watching the movie Harold and Maude last night… it’s been years since I had seen the movie. I forgot how Cat Steven heavy it was too.
Movie 34/365

Every Day
I wish I could find a copy of the Netflix movie poster for the movie “Every Day”… I envisioned the movie being a little romantic comedy about Liev Schreiber choosing between Helen Hunt (who peeled like 25 pounds off) and the sultry Carla Gugino.
The film however is about Live Schreiber dealing with a couple of silly issues and him getting a pass on cheating on his wife (Helen Hunt) because her father is at death’s door.
The best part of the movie is getting a couple of laughs out of Eddie Izzard.
I would recommend watching this if you happen upon it but do not put any effort into seeking it out.
